Directed by Peter Berg, the Netflix action comedy is based on Robert B. Parker's novel series of the same name. The movie had an intriguing plot with a very moral main character, but the movie’s downfall was in the actors and the script. (And he also tends to use similar character archetypes over and over, which complicates things - but that's a separate issue.) When they appeared in the movie their acting felt superficial, especially when compared to Wahlberg. The events that transpired throughout the storyline leave you rooting for Wahlberg’s character, Spenser, who is a moral, stand-up guy. It stars actor Mark Wahlberg with other celebrities such as Post Malone and Donald Cerrone, better known by his UFC ring name Cowboy, making appearances throughout the film.
He assaulted his captain, John Boylan, because Spenser believed Boylan was abusing his wife. For example, neither Post Malone’s nor Cowboy’s main job is acting, and it was pretty clear that the director, Berg, hired them as a publicity stunt for the movie. The story of Netflix’s “Spenser Confidential,” which premieres on Netflix today, isn’t something viewers haven’t seen or heard before. Spenser (Wahlberg) is a tough ex-cop from Boston, who served time after an altercation with his captain John Boylan (Michael Gaston), who Spenser discovers is a wife-beater. Netflix's Spenser Confidential cast is led by two major movie stars, and is filled with an impressive supporting cast to boot.
