The first time I read Lihaaf, I was expecting to be struck by the progressiveness of its mere existence in terms of talking about homosexuality and female desire in the 1940s.But what followed was confusion and questions. 'The Quilt', which is the second story in the book, would be a shocker to a lot of current day readers, so I can only imagine how it was received when first published.
