Meanwhile, platform 4 now houses CRAFT, a recycling charity that was previously in the Old Police Station Yard, while platforms 1 and 2 house the Vale of Rheidol, moved from the former Aberystwyth Smithfields Station near the sheds on Park Avenue.
Tesco and Marks and Spencer are scheduled to replace these, despite the proximity of Co-Operative Stores Ltd and Morrison's supermarkets and concerns that smaller local shops will also be unable to compete.The university residence Alexandra Hall, built as a women's hall in 1896, was closed in 1985 and remained largely empty, often threatened by vandalism and fire, until it finally re-opened in 2004/5 through a private partnership with the university. It remains the only licensed adult club that has ever existed in Aberystwyth.
